ok. so, I just had a close friend play the game who was significantly better at 2d sonic games and he had gotten further than i had gotten, but even he admitted the same problems. invincibility damage frames should take a bit longer, and the special stages are still very hard, but it is still a really really fun game to play

while I don't agree with a lot of what your review had said, I do very much agree with what you said with the special stages. 2D games should always be treated as if they introducing new fans to the franchise and should tread carefully with everything. especially special zones and stuff like that. it feels unjustified that the first special zone has spikes everywhere unlike every other depiction where the spike balls are a rarity in the first special stage. the rings passing animation is like they slow down upon approaching them which is not how a forward perspective looks. they slowly approach and then they get closer faster when you pass them. think about how you drive by signs. you can see them slowly get closer but when you are close to them they pass quickly. sure. its playable but that does not excuse it to be passable. not everyone grew up with the 2D games. not every sonic fan is a master at the 2D games. I just recently beated all of the 2D canonical games and I have been playing them since i was 2 years old "Gitting gud" is different for everyone. i happily will play the updated version of the game but i wont expect much of a different experience if the next update just fixes a few bugs instead of focuses on fixing main mechanics. I loved sonic 3D blast as a platformer game but hated it as a sonic game. That's why i downloaded this game expecting its focus to be on the speed aspect of sonic in the flicky island zones. so when im being told i NEED to be slow on certain levels i feel completely betrayed of what a sonic game is. I think this game will blow my mind if it could get a better vision behind it. but right now. it feels like the people who made the Forces 2D levels made this. don't get me wrong. this is Leaps beyond forces gameplay, but it has that same annoying disappointing aftertaste

fair enough, but it still feel so unsatisfying how your speeding along the level and with a matter of 2 to 3 seconds you take damage. maybe remove some certain hit zones? stuff like spikes and gas leaks? and after going through 2 more zones i highly recommend making the invincibility frames last just a bit longer. in sonic 3 they lasted for what feels like 2 and a half, maybe 3 seconds and that's perfect

OK! lol I'm a fuggin idiot. i figured those bounce pads were for backtracking but I is an OOpSy!! Still think the level are just a tad over-saturated with enemies

I think the best way to make this game significantly more enjoyable is to tone down some enemy spots. Some hits felt very cheap. I went up a ramp and ram into some spikes on the roof. That is very cheap for an attack. It makes things feel unfair. My speed was rewarded with a practically unavoidable hit, losing all of my rings. I think there are two perfect ways to avoid getting upset. Make invincibility frames last a second or two longer, and when you take damage only lose a certain number of rings. It's perfectly fine to make levels more difficult than the common type, but you should implement  attributes to make it not feel as aggravating... I'm not saying that this is god awful, like other reviews I've read. This is an awesome re-imagining of Sonic 3D Blast and I have genuine respect for its idea and the talent given to it. If this game had some polish and focus, I'm sure it will be a phenomenal game.

Pros

  • animation
  • quality
  • sprites
  • music
  • some act layouts
  • bubble shields
  • MOST enemy placement
  • you get chaos emeralds from mini-bosses
  • game play consistency (the depictions of the levels stay faithful to the original Acts)

Cons

  • invincibility frames are too short.
  • Special Stages are unplayable for me (rings pass by way too fast)
  • SOME enemy placement and spikes
  • elemental bubbles give no effect to Tails and Knuckles (but that's honestly excusable, since S3&K had the same problem)
  • Small minor glitches (that I'm sure will get patched up on later updates)

All in all, I enjoy the game, I just hope some things get polished.

 7/10 for version 1.06.

Also when you pause during the cut-scene of Robotnik taking the emeralds after the first zone, the game freezes completely. I didn't know if you knew that. Figured that you should

That fixed it! thank you so much. I'm glad i found that bug too

yes, but when i delete "Last", I am back at where I started and it doesn't give me the option to map my controller until I map the keyboard, again, brings me back to square one. I just tried several times and nothing changed. maybe you should have a remapping options in the extras for the sake of pacing. this way you could have it automatically save the remapping even if the game freezes. you could just close the game and open it back up using the controller

thank you for your response! is there anyway to avoid this on my own or do you need to fix the bug?

I have a problem from the get-go. i know i can play this game on the keyboard but my fingers quickly cramp on that style, so i try to remap the controller to my xbox one (for windows) controller and right after I map it, and it makes the continue chime, the game just no longer functions on controller or keyboard... I hope I am just missing something. can you help please?
